An independent guide to Shakespeare’s town
We write the Stratford-upon-Avon guide we wanted to find: specific, honest, up to date, and available in ten languages.
What this site is
StratfordUponAvon.com is an independent travel guide to Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside. We are not affiliated with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the local authority or any tourist board.
The site covers the five Shakespeare family properties, the theatre, the river, the town itself, and the day trips that make Stratford worth more than an afternoon — Warwick Castle, Charlecote Park and the Cotswolds.
How we decide what to recommend
Every tour and ticket we list is a live, bookable product with genuine traveller reviews. We rank on rating, review volume and value for money, and we say plainly when something is only worth doing under particular circumstances — with children, in good weather, or on a second visit.
We do not accept payment for placement or for positive coverage, and commission rates play no part in what we rank first.
How the site is funded
This guide is free to read and carries no advertising. It is funded entirely by affiliate commissions: when you book a tour or ticket through GetYourGuide, or a hotel through Trip.com, using a link on this site, we receive a small commission from the partner. You pay exactly the same price.
That model only works if the recommendations are good, which is the strongest incentive we could ask for. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Ten languages
Stratford-upon-Avon receives visitors from all over the world, and most travel guides serve only English speakers. Every page on this site is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Arabic, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, with outbound booking links that open in the same language.
Accuracy and corrections
Opening hours, prices and timetables change. We review the site regularly, but if you find something out of date or wrong, please tell us — corrections from readers are the fastest way we find mistakes, and we are grateful for every one.
