Entry ticket from £15 The most underrated ticket in town. This is the 15th-century Guildhall where Stratford's council met, where travelling acting companies performed — very probably in front of the young Shakespeare — and, upstairs, the schoolroom where he was taught. You can sit at the desks, try a Tudor lesson with a costumed schoolmaster and see the room where a boy first watched professional actors at work. Small, atmospheric and rarely crowded.
Small-group walking tour from £11 A longer, slower and more detailed walk than the standard town tour, run by a guide with an obvious passion for Stratford's social history. Two hours gives time for the wool trade, the great fires, the Victorian reinvention of the town as a literary shrine and the buildings almost everyone walks past.
